Mother’s Day is coming, the day we celebrate the one who bore us for 9 months, gave birth to us, raised us and nurtured us before we even did any deserving of all that affection and care.

It can be a thankless job, and oftentimes we give them more grief than they deserve… So, TP would like to join in the celebration by putting them in the spotlight.

From today till Friday, 11 May, students can send in photos of their mothers and we will put them up online as well as on our LED wall. We are using LiveShare to create a live “photo wall” collection, and once your picture is approved you’ll see it straight on that wall!

What We’re Looking For

Photos of your mum at home, at work, on a holiday with you – anything that you feel defines your relationship with your mother.

If you also have a particularly moving story about your mother, or something that you would like to say to her, feel free to include it in.

Here’s how you can submit your photos:

1. LiveShare app

The LiveShare app is available for iPhones, and you can get it here: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/liveshare-by-cooliris/id383848397?mt=8&ls=1

Once you’ve created an account, search for “TP Mother’s Day” in the search bar (pull downwards if you can’t see it):

Tap on the “TP Mother’s Day” conversation.

And simply tap the camera icon to upload your photo, and you’re done! Once we approve it, it’ll be up on the LiveShare wall. Oh, and be sure to comment with your name, course and year!

2. Email

Alternatively, you can also email your photo to digitalmedia@tp.edu.sg. Make sure to include your name, course and year!

We’re running this event from today all the way till Friday, and the photos will be up till the end of next week. We hope to see your entries soon!

Inspiration is a fascinating, if somewhat strange thing.

For one, it’s nigh impossible to make inspiration happen at whim. There’s no button to press, no actual light-bulb to switch on. But if our students from the School of Design can show us one thing, it’s that inspiration is often set aflame by passion.

Our 2012 graduating cohort of Design Students had their Design Show at Vivocity from 5 – 7 April, where everyone and anyone could come in to behold upon their their final year projects and portfolios.

It wasn’t difficult to tell the crowds apart – curious passerbys would smile and coo; family members took pictures proudly; design peers and industry experts would patiently scrutinize at the various pieces with a glint in their eye.

At the heart of it all, of course, were the works of our students. And like we mentioned – it was passion that was the hallmark of the Design Show.

The projects were as varied as the diploma courses themselves. Photograph books, gadgets, websites, short films, fashion and even advertising campaigns were just some of the many projects on display. But they weren’t all there just to look pretty.

Lee Hung, from the Diploma in Visual Communications, designed and put together an entire board game – board, game pieces, rules and all – for the Singapore Botanic Gardens. The idea sprung up when her mum, a tour guide, suggested she do something for the Botanic Gardens.

Leslie, from the Diploma in Interactive Media Design, is an active beatboxer. He designed an entirely new layout for 808beatz.com, a local beatboxing community, not because they asked him to, but simply because he wanted to. It even has a whole library of examples and lessons on how to beatbox different sounds that he put together after collaborating with a friend.

Nur Syazwani’s shy demeanour is nowhere to be seen in her architectural project Marriage Makers by the River. Hailing from the Diploma in Interior Architecture & Design, her project is of a pre-marriage and marriage counselling centre. She dreams to one day get married herself, but knows the difficulties that couples can face in married life.

To have taken issues so close to their hearts and then transform them into design concepts that they’ve been trained in… it was astounding to say the least. And in every area possible – fashion, graphics design, product design, architecture – the list goes on.

Inspiration is a strange thing, but it is also infectious. There were visitors who left impressed, and there were those who left challenged. Challenged to do the same – to put their heart into their work, and then let their works change the world.

Alright Singapore, we confess: the TP Uniform prank was an April Fools’ Joke, and our most elaborate one yet. No, we’re definitely not implementing any uniforms at all, and most certainly not those gaudy red-and-white monstrosities.

We started playing April Fools’ jokes in 2010, where we claimed that TP was flooding. Last year, we “announced” that TP would be extending our course durations from 3 to 5 years.

We were very encouraged by the responses we got both times – our students clearly had a great sense of humour. So we decided to take it a step further this year. Well quite a few steps further, in fact.

And to quote a student who fell for our little prank, it seems that we didn’t just end up “trolling our students”, we “trolled a nation”. And it all started with one image.

The supposed “TP uniforms”, designed for reactions combining lots of cringing and “omg they’re really uniforms”

Some our students – co-conspirators, if you will – leaked the above image on Twitter on Tuesday and Wednesday night. This caught people’s attention, but many just thought that the image was a random joke and left it as that.

That was until Thursday night, when the Temasek Polytechnic Uniform website was “leaked” as well.

In just 2 hours, the images spread through the Twitterverse like wildfire, and we even trended 3 different phrases on Twitter at one point. Close to 5 tweets a second were appearing on Twitter on the new “TP Uniform”. Not once did TP promote this webpage online.

From just 2 tweets, our prank had gone viral. By the end of April Fools’, over 65,000 people would view our “announcement” video. At the time of this blog post, the view count stands at 82,000 views. To put this number into context, we have a total of about 20,000 students AND staff in TP.

The TP Uniforms had gone viral.

Here’re some other quick facts about the prank you might find interesting:

TP Uniform Webpage

On Thursday, the webpage leak solicited retweets from many heavyweights in the Twitterverse, including @mrbrown, @BB_See and @fakeMOE.

It’s stated Student Unity & School Identity committee was formed in 1986. Temasek Polytechnic, however, was only established in 1990. Also, ”Pinafore” is misspelled as “Pinafold”.

None of the links on the Copyright & Terms of Use-bar at the very bottom of the page work.

The webpage resides on this blog’s server, not our official website at www.tp.edu.sg – in fact, not a single mention of our uniform is made on our corporate website.

We got STOMPed on Friday, our first of 2 STOMP appearances. And no, we didn’t STOMP ourselves.

TP Uniform “Announcement” Video

The video is an effort by the TemasekPolyTV crew, and actually resides on the TPTV channel.

At 2:12, the text “01042012ROFL” can be seen next to Abdul Rahman.

At the beginning of the video, Mary Thomas mentions that the committee was formed last year, even though the website claims that it was formed in 1986.

This video also got us STOMPed.

Within 24 hours, more than 65,000 have watched the video.

But why did we do it?

Well yes, we did want to troll everyone. When the suggestion first hit the floor, you could see everyone light up, an evil grin slowly appearing on their faces.

But what was particularly fascinating, and we know this from experience, is how closely we value something as simple as wearing our own clothes to school. It’s part of our identity as polytechnic students, as TP students. It’s a statement of liberty, even, that we choose what we want to wear.

And our students didn’t disappoint us – you were shocked, bewildered and flabbergasted that something like this would even be suggested. Then you saw the uniforms, and how hideous they were. You compared them to fast food restaurants and children’s drawings, and even those who claimed to know it was an April Fools’ joke secretly were afraid that it would be really implemented.

And this entire time, you exemplified the one thing we wanted bring out – that you were strongly believed in your way of life, and you were willing to speak up for it. Then when you saw it all revealed, you laughed… and then grabbed your pitchforks.

Well played, ladies and gentlemen, well played. We couldn’t have asked for a better student body to prank, because you couldn’t have made us prouder. So yes, it’s all a hoax – you can go back to liking us again. Err. Right guys?

Guys?

Story by Vim

Two weeks ago, final-year Biomedical Science student, Siti Farah Fadhlullah, presented her project SIP/MP to an auditorium full of industry people and students from all five polytechnics.

Her project involved in the development of a microsieve cartridge to isolate circulating tumour cells in the bloodstream of cancer patients. For her research work, Farah received the Polytechnic Student Research Programme Award alongside other students from the five polys.

Siti worked at the Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology (IBN) with research scientists to detect cancer cells within an hour via a blood test, a processmuch faster and less painful than a biopsy.

“I’ve always wanted to do research. Since Yr 1 in poly, I’ve always thought that it was cool to be in a lab coat, pipetting small volumes of liquid and working in a real research lab,” said Farah.

“After my SIP/MP experience with IBN, I really understood the world of scientific research. It wasn’t as simple as donning a lab coat and holding a pipette in my hand. The experience was totally different from the practical lessons we had during our curriculum time. In IBN, a lot of autonomy and independence is given to students on attachment. We plan, design and execute our own experiments. We had to find our own protocols and modify them according to our experimental objectives. We were expected to learn the principles and steps of carrying out a particular lab technique or equipment, unlike in school where we are given a readied protocol and all we had to do was to follow instructions and perform the experiments.”

Farah’s advice to juniors who are interested in pursuing a career in research is: “Pay attention during practical lessons and train your pipetting techniques as well as other lab skills as you’ll have to rely heavily on them during your attachment”. According to her, good lab techniques will contribute to the quality of results one produces and this in turn will result in others having confidence and trust in your data/results. “This will definitely have a positive impact on your work standards… you’ll produce a good MP report and leave behind a reputable profile with your host organisation. So next time when you’re seeking employment, your attachment company will welcome you back with open arms!”

Having spent nearly six months in IBN, Farah says she has learnt a great deal about life values. Research isn’t a field for everyone who does science. It takes a lot of mental strength, tolerance, discipline, time, sacrifice and most importantly, one must have the passion for research. Long working hours and difficult experiments are part and parcel of the world of research so she advises that one think very thoroughly and be very sure before deciding on a career in research. As she so aptly sums it up…”If you love what you’re doing, you wouldn’t mind spending the whole day alone with cells in a lab because you strongly believe that in the end, it is great work that you’re doing!”

Farah has already secured a place at NTU (Biological Sciences) and is now waiting for NUS to release their application results before deciding on which university to go to. After her undergraduate studies, she plans to either continue doing research or work in the science-healthcare industry before pursuing her PhD.

For a while now, we’ve hinted at a secret project that we’ve been busy planning for on Twitter and Facebook.

Last week, we finally unveiled it – TemasekPolyTV, a brand new YouTube channel fronted by two of our very own students, Samuel and Rushdy.

This channel is dedicated to showing an insightful, and entertaining, look into life as a TP student. Our friends, juniors, parents, relatives and even teachers have asked us before – just what happens in TP? Why does everything think we’re Singapore’s most vibrant poly? How different is polytechnic life from secondary school life?

So we figured that the best people to answer that question are our very own students.

Samuel Driscoll (Sammmydee, and yes with 3 m’s) is a Year 1-going-on-Year 2 student from the Diploma in Business Process & Systems Engineering, and yes, many of you would’ve already recognised him. He’s Electricladyland8 on YouTube, of “SoSingaporean” and “Angmoh Speaking Chinese” fame.

Rushdy Abdul Rahman (ZunnyD) is a Year 1-going-on-Year 2 student from the Diploma in Communications & Media Management (CMM). He’s no stranger to hosting – he’s emceed for our Open House, TPRAWKS and many other events. He’s also got his own channel on YouTube where you can see behind the scenes’ footage and previews of upcoming episodes.

And yes, the “ang-moh” speaks like a Singaporean (which he is), and the Malay speaks like an “ang-moh” (he’s Singaporean too, but was schooled overseas in international schools).

Behind the scenes, we have David Sun (above) and Donovan Taim (below), both Year 2-going-on-Year 3 students from CMM, our highly talented crew that have shot, directed, recorded and pretty much pushed this project from concept to reality. Did we mentioned they’re highly talented? Because they ARE.

These 4 are the pioneers of TPTV, and we are ridiculously excited about the project. In under a week, we’ve already garnered over 750 subscribers and 6000 video views on the teaser alone… Just… wow.

Various students and staff have helped us through this project as well, and we’d like to especially thank the TP Cliquers, the DPA students, the TP Dragonboat team, Booklink (the TP Bookshop), the TP Library, CMM, the School of IIT for all your help!

So go Like the video, Subscribe to our channel and give comments on what you want to see on TemasekPolyTV.

This is the start of something awesome, and we want YOU to be a part of it.

Have you ever tried to organise an outing with your friends, but:

1. Everyone wants to go out, but everyone can’t agree on where to go.
2. One person becomes the organizer, but sending mass SMSes is expensive and some people just never reply.
3. You start a Facebook event but not everyone is on Facebook, and no one ever seems to click ANY of the Attendance options.

It’s generally accepted that group outings are always challenging and inconvenient to organise. But that’s the thing about these “common” problems – suddenly someone comes along, provides a simple-and-yet-brilliant solution and everyone goes, “That’s just awesome! Why didn’t someone think of this earlier?”

Students from the Diploma in Business Information Technology are trying to do just that.

Ron, Liyao, Darren, Fabian and Ryan are in the midst of developing a smartphone app (for iPhones and Android) called LifeAtEvent, which is specifically targeted to make these group outings more intuitive and convenient to organise.

The App functions to simplify the process by focusing on a few core needs of event organisation – by helping people share attractions (and its locations), by facilitating discussions and then of course by confirming attendance, all in one convenient location.

(Note: These screenshots are of an App currently under development, and the functions might change before development is complete. These screenshots were taken from the Android version of the App.)

But just because a solution, or problem, appears simple doesn’t mean you don’t need to do your research.

“We surveyed 500 people from the Gen-Y group to understand what needs they have when it comes to event planning,” Ron shared. They found that, yes, group events were always the toughest to organize. In other words, there was a market for a solution.

“The 3 biggest events were family gatherings, friends’ gatherings and birthday parties.”

Their project is one of many that will be showcased on Thursday during the Diploma in Business Information Technology’s Project Show, where the graduating cohort’s major projects are presented for all to see. It’s not just a showcase of technical skills, but also of innovative ideas, problem solving and of course, keen business sense.

In LifeAtEvent’s case, their journey has certainly been a fascinating one. Their project started in 2011 and won the Explorer Grant Award, making TP the first polytechnic to win this prestigious innovation award. This netted them a cool $50,000 to fund their business idea, which has since undergone many changes and improvements before finally settling into its current development cycle.

The public will be able to see this and other projects at the BIT Project Show on Thursday, 23 Feb, LT 19 in the School of Business. It’s open to all, be sure to come and check it out!

For the second time in a row, Temasek Polytechnic has won the S R Nathan Cup. And for the second time in a row, a blocked penalty kick sealed the deal.

TP faced RP in the finals of the Institute Varsity Polytechnic (IVP) league at NYP on Friday, 10 Feb. During the preliminary league matches, RP’s only loss was to TP, and TP remained undefeated. RP was, however, the POL-ITE gold medalists, while TP won silver. There was potential, therefore, for this to be quite the grudge match.

By the way some of the players between the two teams greeted each other though, that clearly wasn’t the case. Both teams have members from the Young Lions squad (RP had 7, we have 2), which did go some way in bridging our two teams together. And though the first yellow card (to RP) came a short 1 minute after the whistle was blown, it was a case of a misjudged tackle rather than a malicious intention.

In fact, this professionalism surrounded most of the match. Both TP and RP played hard – our boys dominated the first half and RP returned the pressure in the second – and chance after chance showed itself. More than once, an RP striker would find himself on a one-on-one with the keeper. More than once, our boys would outpace 3-4 defenders for a shot on goal.

Unfortunately, and at times frustratingly, both teams just couldn’t convert. Shots went high and wide, or were easily caught and blocked by the keepers. It might have been because the formations were kept tight, but both teams held each other to a goal-less draw.

So it was, at the 93rd minute, that the penalty shootout was announced.

There’s no two ways about it – a penalty shootout is easily one of the most nail-biting things to watch. Our coach, Steven Tan, had very few words for his boys. “Listen, for penalty shootout, just focus on one point and shoot. Don’t change your mind.” Focus and fire.

Our captain takes the first shot and scores. RP steps up, and shoots.

Our keeper just misses it. 1-1.

Then 2-2, 3-3 and 4-4. With each penalty taken, the tension mounted. Would someone buckle under pressure and miss entirely? Would the keeper pull off a heroic save? We bit our nails and pulled our hair. And then it happened.

Our keeper, Dharvin, dived correctly to the left to block RP’s 6th shot. He didn’t cheer, yell or punch his fist in the air. He simple stood up, and with a bright smile on his face, walked coolly (like a boss) towards his team.

A team that was doing all the cheering for him.

The TP Soccer Team charged across the field yelling and screaming and smothered him onto the ground. Our supporters were up in arms, beating their drums and waving our flags. With the release of the tension, our Registrar amusingly quipped, “Maybe next time we should just skip to the penalty shootout.”

Though our keeper was the man of the moment, he wasn’t the only one who did a good job.

We’re proud of you, TP Soccer Team – you showed determination, professionalism and cool-headedness. Congratulations on a well-earned win, and a mightily entertaining match indeed.

It’s Valentine’s Day in TP, and chocolates, flowers and assorted soft toys were suddenly popping up everywhere. So, in the spirit of things, we decided to hold a special event on Facebook.

We started looking for alumni who met their spouse, or in one case spouse-to-be, while they were in TP and shared their stories. Some of them got married soon after graduation, others much later. But either way, it was at the crossroads that was TP that they found love – and they held on to it tightly. While we’re on this journey to learn more about life, we sometimes begin to learn about love.

For those of you who didn’t see their stories, here they are. We asked them a few basic questions about their relationships, and you really need to read all the answers to “How did you know he/she was ‘The One’” – they’re all incredibly sweet and grounded.

Michelle Jean & Michael De Roza

How long have you been married?
6 years.

Which course were you from?
Both were from CMM; he was my junior

Who made the first move?
We hung out a lot in the MediaBiz studios, and one day found that we were the only ones in the studio during lunchtime so we went for lunch together at Mensa (SALAD BAR FTW).

It was in preparation for MediaBiz Awards presentation and ceremony (again stuck in the studios over many late nights) that “sparks flew”. A little bit of ICQ/MSN later and we went on our first date.

How did you know he was “The One”?
Maybe ‘cuz every relationship I was ever in, I always felt that I was floating on Cloud 9… And he was the first person who made me feel that love was actually possible on the ground.

How have your views on love changed since poly life?
Poly was crazy, who didn’t we have a crush on? The thing about love is it’s a really deep feeling that pours out of your heart, you can’t keep a lid on it. It shows in the little things you do, it shows in the decisions you make, it shows in the unspoken gestures in everyday life.

Ratna Sarif & Mohd Jufri

How long have you been married?
7 months.

What course were you in?
I was in Law & Management, Class of 2003. Jufri was from Electronics, Class of 2001.

Who made the first move?
Jufri made the first move by calling me at home to ask me out. He got my contact number from my friend.

We knew each other through an online chatroom 10 years ago when we are still doing our diploma. He was 3 years my senior in TP.

How did you know he/she was “The One”?
When he got into a motorbike accident many years ago while we were dating, i knew I couldn’t live without him.

How have your views on love changed since poly life?
A lot has changed. We had more freedom to go out after we graduated and had more money to go on dates since we started working already. In poly, we usually have our dates either at the canteens or at Bedok Reservoir after class. But it was still quite romantic.

Jo Koh & Edmund Tan

How long have you been married?
1 year 4 months.

Which course were you from?
I am from Hospitality & Tourism Management, Edmund was from Computer Engineering.

Who made the first move?
I made the first move. He was the cool dude in school and probably didn’t know about my existence. We got to know each other though camps. One day, we played a guessing game. He asked me questions, I had to answer and vice versa.

Through the game, he realised that I like him. But we never got together until we left school after knowing each other for 2 over years.

How did you know he was “The One”?
The moment he dropped his work just to spend a weekend with me @ Bangkok whilst I was working there, feeling lonely. I made a phone call saying I wish he was here and he really came down the very next day. That day, I knew that I was the most important person in his life.

How have your views on love changed since poly life?
Love life in Poly days were more playful and fun. After working and meeting more people in life, loving someone is all about compromising, learning each other strengths & weakness, enjoying the differences you have and learning life’s experiences together.

Smith Leong & Chris Goh

They just got engaged after a 10 year relationship! Congratulations guys!

What course were you in?
We were both from ETCM/Computer Engineering and we graduate in year 04.

Who made the first move?
My wife to be was the only girl in the class. We became close friends shortly after we met thanks to another guy. She made the first move in asking for my number but her reason was she wanted it cause she need to ask me about something. It’s interesting how 3 of us always plan to go out together but the other guy just ended up having something on and leaving just two of us.

There was once she forward me one of those joke Chinese SMS which says that she ran out of rice at home and if I give her some rice or $5000 she will fall in love with me.

So on her birthday I got a nice heart shape bottle filled with rice and gave it to her to express my love and I told her sorry, I only got rice and love but no money and poof! We were officially in a relationship since then.

How did you know she was “The One”?
No, I didn’t know. It just felt right well we hang out and it just goes on and on. Like the quote says it’s not about finding one that you can live with but finding one that you can’t live without.

How have your views on love changed since poly life?
Quite a bit in fact. When things 1st started, because we were classmates and we will spend a lot of time together. We always thought that that’s how love should be and we even did holiday assignments/jobs together, attachment together and FYP together as well but as time goes on it felt just as good or in fact better when we give each other the space we need to do the things we need to.

Edit: The JAE posting results are out! You can access MOE’s JAE system to check your posting. We’ve also made some updates and changes to this blog post now that the results are out.

Posting Results Day

What you will now know:

The course you’ve been posted to

This year’s cut-off points of all the courses

The Enrolment Package and Accepting the Course Offer
At a later date, you will receive an enrolment package from TP through mail. You will receive 2 if you successfully enrolled into 2 courses through the JAE and JPSAE.

To accept a course, you will need to complete the enrolment process described in the package. If you have 2 packages, you need to choose between which course you’d like to accept and proceed with that course’s registration.

JAE Appeals
If you don’t want the course you’ve been offered, you can appeal.

To be eligible to appeal for a course, you must first meet the course’s 2012 Cut-off Points. You can then access the JAE Appeal system and register your appeal choices.

This official appeal process is, like the JAE itself, based on merit. Once the appeal process has been completed, students will be posted based on their results.

Students who successfully appeal into a new course will NOT have the option of going back to the course they were first offered. In other words, do not appeal unless you really do want a change.

Students who do not successfully appeal will still be able to accept their previously-offered course. In other words, an unsuccessful appeal will not leave you without any course.

Many do ask us how high a chance they might have of appealing into a course. We can’t actually predict, so what we can do is to describe the process in simple terms to help you understand it a bit better.

Let’s assume that Course XYZ has an intake of 100 students.

Out of them, 85 students accept the offer. 15 other students do not, either because they’re offered another course via JPSAE or because they want to appeal into a different course.

This, technically, leaves 15 places available for appeals. 30 applicants try to appeal into XYZ, and the system chooses the best 15.

Remember that this is a simplified explanation of the process, but this should at least let you know that, yes, there’s a chance for your appeal to be successful.

Hope that helps! Do let us know if you need anything else.

One of the most challenging parts of the JAE to understand is the complex relationship that a course’s Cut-off Points (COP), aggregate and choice selection have to do with each other.

A number of common questions we get are:

What if I didn’t meet last year’s COP?

What’s the likelihood of me getting into the course?

If I place Course X as 1st choice but don’t get it, will my 2nd choice have a lower priority compared to someone else’s 1st choice?

We’ll try our best to clarify. Let’s first start with some general points about the JAE.

It’s important to note that the Joint Admissions Exercise assigns courses to students first and foremost based on grades. We’re going to be coming back to this point a lot.

This refers to your aggregate ELR2B2 after CCA bonus point deduction. If you scored A1 or A2 for your CCA, you can deduct 2 points off your overall aggregate. If you scored B3 to C6, you can deduct 1 point. The aggregate shown on your Form A is before CCA point reduction.

Now let’s look at how COPs are derived.

The COP for any given year is calculated once the JAE posting results are out. They act as both a benchmark for JAE appeals and as a gauge for how popular the course is among students. For example:

Course X has 100 slots. 150 students apply for the course, and the best 100 are selected.

The COP is the highest grade of the students who joined in, indicating at which aggregate does this course “cut-off” at.

Let’s assume that there are 99 students who scored between 14 – 16 and 1 student who scored 17.

The COP therefore is 17.

But how are students for a course selected? Remember that the JAE selects students based on merit. Once again, we’re going to give a simplified example.

Bobby chooses Course X as his 2nd choice. He scored an aggregate of 13.

Amy chooses Course X as her 1st choice. She scored an aggregate of 15.

After MOE processes the applications, Bobby doesn’t make the cut for his 1st choice, but makes it for Course X.

Amy, unfortunately, doesn’t get this course, as her grades are not as good enough as the others who placed that choice down.

The priority the Ministry of Education gives to course placement lies with your grades, not with your course selection ranking. So even if you place a course as 2nd or 3rd choice, it doesn’t lower your chance of getting into the course compared to someone else who placed it as 1st choice.

This is why we tell people to choose based on their passions and interests.

When choosing your courses, always choose the ones you WANT first, even if you might miss last year’s COP by a bit. This is because there’s always the chance of a COP adjusting in your favour.

After your first few choices, place safer courses. Try to look for ones that are still related to your interests.

This ensures that if you don’t get your first few choices, MOE will still assign you to a course that you’d be interested in.

Your choice placements tell MOE, “These are the choices I have based on my interest in them. I’m most interested in Choice 1, rather interested in Choice 6 and sort of interested in Choice 12.”

MOE then says, “Okay, based on your results, we will assign a course to you accordingly.”

So in summary, you can’t control what other people choose, but you can control your own options. So if you like, say, TP’s Diploma in Early Childhood Studies – go ahead and put it down as your first choice. Even if you don’t get it when the posting results come out, it won’t “kill” your other options either.

Hope that helps! We’ll be more than glad to answer any of the questions you have, so please feel free to ask us anything.
