The Lifeblood of TP
“I feel the earth move under my feet” – Carole King
Last Friday I headed out of the office, ready to enjoy the weekend, when the sound of drums emanated from the triangle garden. Intrigued, I headed down, camera in hand. Something was brewing. In TP; something always is.
The TP Fusion Percussion (Facebook link) were doing their practice rounds, and I couldn’t help but ask them to give me a short demo.
It then occurred to me that music is so deeply entrenched in the TP culture. From the resounding booms of the Salvo Drums, the rhythmic tick-tock of table-tennis in the Sports Complex, to the sweet high notes of Sylvia Ratonel, the campus seems to have a soundtrack for every mood, every individual, and every moment.
TP is only school I’ve ever been in where students would spontaneously break out in mass dance. This is a video of the organised flash mob doing the school mass dance on TP’s 20th anniversary.
What I failed to film was all around the sides, there were students who were not part of the official flash mob organising themselves for the dance. (You can hear them on the video though). It was awesome to be there – witnessing such a vibrant and liberated student population so freely expressing themselves and taking in the moment.
And living in the moment is the whole experience of being in TP, whether night or day. Always filled with music, song and dance.
